Challenge
A Jersey based food stores chain needed a reporting solution for their
financial data distributed in different systems at their 120 stores.
Background
Having grown by acquisition of many independent grocery stores, they
had accumulated a diverse IT system managing different business
functions differently at different stores. They needed an integrated
reporting solution that would gather and present financial and
inventory data.
They were planning on building a small data warehouse to concentrate
multiple data sources into one central database and have all the
integrated reporting out of it.
This proposal was expensive not only because of the
infrastructure/hardware cost of implementing a data warehouse but also
because of programming effort required to implement access control in
as many as fifteen different applications used at different stores.
Since the data was to be manually integrated they would still get data
that was at least a day or two old which would severely limit the
utility of that data for their inventory management system. On top of
that their sensitive financial data would be unsecured from
unauthorized access if they were to open that data for use outside of
individual store systems.
Our Solution
Our solution combining ARCWALL and ARC EAC product allowed them to
securely connect to their databases at different stores to a reporting
solution provided by our report writer software company partner
operating at their headquarters to solve their data reporting needs.
Benefit to our customer
1. They got real time data access to diverse databases in a single
system that was actually useful because it was current.
2. They were able to secure that data access whether it was being
accessed from a store's local system or the headquarters even
applications passing ad hoc queries. This access control was easily
managed by the DBA's locally with almost no training at all.
3. They were able to secure their financial information from
unauthorized access while keeping it transparent as required by SOX
legislation. They were able to also generate access log reports useful
for SOX compliance evidence generation.
4. They were able to save a lot of money and time by not having to
implementing a huge data warehouse that would be too broad for their
use. They were able to implement our solution in a matter of few weeks step by step. |
