Case Study #1
Challenge
An Iowa based healthcare organization wanted to use Crystal Reports to
report on their Lawson data but could not find a data access mechanism
that was secure or simplified HIPAA compliance.
Background
They were using Lawson ERP applications for HR and financial
management but found the canned reports provided by the ERP system
they were using to be inadequate for their business process.
They set aside a good budget for developing the essential reports in
Crystal reports by connecting it to the ERP database directly.
This scheme bypassed the ERP's inherent access control posing a huge
security risk and a violation of statutory compliance. Implementing
the required level of data security would drastically reduce the
database performance. Since they did not have an access control
mechanism in Crystal they had to restrict access to the database that
severely limited its utility for users.
Our Solution
Our product ARC MIS PDP (earlier version of ARC) solved this problem for them by providing an
access control implementation mechanism between Crystal and the Oracle
database which contained their Lawson data.
Benefits to our customer
1. They got an access control mechanism as sophisticated as LAUA
security that worked with Crystal reports maximizing the value of
their investment in that reporting infrastructure.
2. They were able to provide non-Lawson users (external auditors and
their accountants) secure access to their Lawson data without
violating HIPAA legislation.
3. They were able to automatically import LAUA security into ARC MIS
PDP (earlier version of ARC) rules that saved them huge programming cost and project time.
4. They were able to generate access rights and log reports for use in
their HIPAA compliance evidence reports. |
